CAREMAG: ENERCAT Supports the Recycling of Rare Earths for a More Circular Industry
A new milestone has been reached in a major industrial project that ENERCAT – ALSYS GROUP is proud to contribute to.
In Lacq, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region of southwest France, CARESTER is developing CAREMAG. It is a future facility dedicated to the recycling of permanent magnets and the processing of rare earths.
The project represents an important step towards developing a more circular, sustainable and sovereign European industry.
CAREMAG: Recycling rare earths for a more circular industry
The ambition behind CAREMAG is clear: give a second life to the rare earths contained in end-of-life permanent magnets and produce high-purity rare earth oxides in France.
These critical materials are essential for many advanced technologies, including electric vehicles, wind turbines and other high-tech applications.
By recovering and processing these valuable resources, CAREMAG aims to contribute to a more circular approach to the use of critical raw materials while strengthening European supply chains.
ENERCAT’s role in the CAREMAG project
As part of this ambitious project, ENERCAT – ALSYS GROUP, together with PROSSERGY, has been selected to contribute to the implementation of the facility’s VOC treatment solution.
This project draws directly on ENERCAT’s expertise in catalysis and industrial gas emission treatment.
Our role is to provide a tailor-made solution designed to support the efficient treatment of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) generated by the industrial process.
This contribution reflects ENERCAT’s commitment to helping industries address their environmental challenges through advanced catalytic technologies and innovative emission treatment solutions.
A major step forward for the project
The CAREMAG project is now entering a highly concrete phase.
The equipment is currently being assembled, integrated and progressively tested, marking an important milestone in the development of the future facility.
From engineering to equipment integration, this stage brings the project one step closer to its operational objectives.
A project with ambitious environmental goals
CAREMAG goes far beyond the recycling of rare earths.
Once operational, the facility is expected to recycle up to 2,000 tonnes of permanent magnets per year and process 5,000 tonnes of mining concentrates.
The project also incorporates ambitious environmental objectives, including:
- reducing water consumption;
- eliminating liquid effluents;
- recycling a significant proportion of the CO₂ generated directly on site;
- recovering valuable rare earth materials from end-of-life products.
These objectives illustrate how industrial innovation can contribute to a more resource-efficient and circular production model.
Supporting the environmental transformation of industry
For ENERCAT, CAREMAG is a strong example of our ability to support industries in their environmental transformation.
By combining catalytic expertise, innovation and tailor-made gas treatment solutions, we help industrial projects address increasingly demanding environmental requirements. We also support the development of new, more sustainable processes.
CAREMAG also demonstrates the importance of collaboration between industrial players to develop the technologies and infrastructure needed for a more circular economy.
Towards a more circular and sovereign industry
We would like to congratulate and thank all the ENERCAT and ALSYS GROUP teams. We would also like to thank our partners involved in this project for their contribution and commitment.
CAREMAG is moving forward — and so is our contribution to a more circular, more sovereign and more sustainable industry.
